2024 Heat and Water Safety

June 21, 2024

Dear NLACRC Community member,

As we enter the warmer months, it’s important to take a moment to discuss the safety measures surrounding water and heat. Whether you’re enjoying a day by the pool, planning a beach trip, or simply soaking up the sunshine outdoors, safety should always be a top priority.

Here are a few friendly reminders to ensure you and your loved ones stay safe and hydrated during this season:

  1. Stay Hydrated: Remember to drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially if you’re spending time outdoors or engaging in physical activities. Dehydration can sneak up on you, so keep a water bottle handy.
  2. Sun Protection: Use sunscreen with a high SPF to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Reapply sunscreen every few hours, especially after swimming or sweating.
  3. Pool and Water Safety: If you’re swimming or near water, always keep an eye on children and inexperienced swimmers. Ensure they wear appropriate floatation devices if needed, and never leave them unattended near water.
  4. Heat Awareness: Be mindful of heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heatstroke. If you or anyone around you shows symptoms like excessive sweating, dizziness, nausea, or confusion, move to a cooler place and seek medical help if necessary.
  5. Safe Practices: Whether it’s grilling outdoors or enjoying a bonfire, practice fire safety at all times. Keep a safe distance from open flames and ensure all fires are fully extinguished before leaving the area.

By staying vigilant and following these simple precautions, we can all enjoy a safe and enjoyable summer season.

Here’s to a wonderful summer filled with fun and safety!
