RESIDENTIAL SERVICES ORIENTATION (RSO)

RSO is designed to provide an overview of the Title 17 requirements for residential vendorization. RSO is provided for persons who wish to become vendored as residential service providers, Administrators for new residential facilities, and individuals who have not served as an active Administrator in the last 2 or more years. WHERE:                The first and last (exam) sessions will be held at North Los Angeles County Regional Center (NLACRC). All other sessions will be virtual/online via Zoom. Class location and Zoom details will be sent to those enrolled.

PARKING:             Free for in-person sessions      

FEE:                       $100

ATTENDANCE:     Participants must attend all scheduled classes, arrive on time for all in-person and virtual classes, and pass the RSO exam to receive a certificate of completion. Maximum one absence allowed.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS & REGISTRATION

NLACRC RSO Prerequisites

  • Certificate verifying completion of Direct Support Professional (DSP) Year 1 and Year 2*. Additional information is available at: https://www.dsptrain.org/.
  • Professional résumé demonstrating experience providing paid, direct supervision and special services to persons with developmental disabilities, in a licensed residential setting, for a minimum of 6 months. Ensure to add a sentence stating NLACRC may contact previous employers and any references provided to verify the experience listed on the résumé. 
  • Professional letters of reference (2 – 3). Please note these letters must be signed by the person providing the reference and include a way for NLACRC to contact them. One letter must be from a professional providing residential services to regional center consumers. 
  • Provide proof of full-time Direct Care Staff experience pursuant to Title 17, Section 56002 (a) (12). Volunteer work is not accepted. Experience must be current within the last two (2) years. Please submit pay stubs and or W-2 Tax Forms, for the most recent 6 months or more, to meet this requirement. NLACRC will verify this experience.

* Who is required to take the Direct Support Professional Training (DSP)?

Anyone working in a Community Care Facility (CCF) licensed by the Community Care Licensing Division, California Department of Social Services, and providing direct care to people with developmental disabilities, who are regional center consumers, will be required to take the 70 hours of competency-based training or pass the applicable competency tests. All direct care staff in Service Level  2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 (Formerly 2, 3, or 4) facilities are required to complete the 70-hour training or pass the competency test. The term “direct care staff” refers to all personnel, including administrators, of service level 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 (Formerly 2, 3, or 4) residential facilities providing direct service supervision and special services to consumers.

  1. Send proof of ALL RSO prerequisites to Resourcedevelopment@nlacrc.org by no later than Sunday, February 23, 2025 at 11:59 PM.    
  • Once your prerequisites are confirmed and verified, you will be sent an Eventbrite invitation, registration password, and instructions for registering.
  • Enter the name of the event and password at Eventbrite.com and pay for the Residential Services Orientation.
  • RSO confirmation and class location details will be sent via email.
