NLACRC is excited to announce that we are accepting Success Stories to share on NLACRC’s social media sites, website, newsletters, and more! We want to share stories of our consumers, families, and others in the community. We are excited to see your creativity!

What is a human interest story?

A human interest story is a photo, video, recording, or anything else that shares your achievements, struggles, motivation, or other personal story that you want to share with the community. We plan to share these Success Stories with our community through NLACRC’s social media, website, newsletters, and potentially other places.

The Success Stories must be relevant, helpful, or important to NLACRC’s consumers, families, service providers, business partners, employees, or community. This might include (but could include other things):

• Success stories about consumers’ education, jobs (without naming the employer), and other activities in the community.
• Stories about difficulties that consumes or families have faced and how they have overcome them.

Some ideas for stories are:

• Getting a job
• Going to school
• Something you accomplished
• A struggle that you overcame

In your story you may want to talk about:

• What happened?
• How did you feel?
• What makes your story important to share?

If you are making a video, it is recommended that the video be 1 minute or less.

What can and cannot be in the Success Stories?

We hope to accept your Success Stories, but there are some things that cannot be in them. These are things that are not allowed by law, or that are unkind, disrespectful, offensive, or for other reasons.

You can see what content we can accept and what we cannot accept. We have created a list of criteria. We have also created a “quick guide” to help explain what content we can accept.

How can you submit my interest in sharing a success story?

When you let us know that you want to share a success story, we will send you instructions on what to send and how to send it. Below is information about what documents you will need to submit with your human interest story when we send you the instructions. When you submit a success story to NLACRC, there are some documents that you also need to send. When you submit a human interest story, please send us:

What consents do you need to send NLACRC with your Success Stories?

There are 2 different types of consents for the Success Stories. Different people need to sign the consents. Here is information about who needs to sign each type of consent:

• Authorization, Consent, and Release for Use of Name, Voice and Likeness: Everyone who appears in, is heard in, or is discussed in a human interest story needs to sign this consent. Learn more about who needs to sign this type of consent here: (English) (Spanish)
• Photography/Video Release: Everyone who took or made the picture, video, or recording needs to sign this consent. Learn more about who needs to sign this type of consent here: (English) (Spanish)
• If there is more than 1 person that needs to sign a consent for your human interest story, then each of them needs to sign a separate consent form. They cannot all sign on the same form.
• If you have a conservatorship or guardianship, or are a minor, you need to make sure that you have the legal right to sign the consent form to give consent. If you do not, then the person that has that legal right (your conservator, guardian, parent, or other legal representative) needs to sign the consent form to give consent.

Human Interest Story Submission FAQs

What do I need for NLACRC to accept my human interest story?

NLACRC can accept your human interest story if:

• You must send a completed Human Interest Story Submission Form;
• You must send all required consent forms (see below for more information);
• All consent forms must be signed by the person who has the authority to consent
  (see below for more information;
• Your human interest story must meet the Board approved social media posting
  criteria.

What consents do I need to submit with my human interest story?

• Each person appearing in, who is heard in, or who is talked about in, a
  human interest story video, photo, or recording (as applicable) must complete
  and sign the “Authorization, Consent, and Release for Use of Name, Voice and
  Likeness.”
• Each person who took or made the picture, video, or recording must complete
  and sign the “Photography/Video Release.”

Who can sign the human interest story consents?

• If you have a conservatorship or guardianship, or are a minor, you must make
  sure that you have the legal authority to sign the consent form to give consent.
  If you do not, your conservator, guardian, parent, or other legal representative (as
  appropriate) must sign the consent form to give consent.
• The person submitting the human interest story must make sure that all people
  who are in the human interest story, and all people who took the video,
  photo, or recording (or their conservator, guardian, parent, or other legal
  representative, as appropriate):
  • Sign the correct consent form; and
  • Have the legal authority to give consent.
